Next Step for regenerating Kidderminster

Map of diversion due to road closures

The ‘Step Entry’ which connects Worcester Street to Bromsgrove Street in Kidderminster town centre is closed from Friday 15 September 2023 to make way for the transition to an attractive new stepped access and green space in the middle of town.

The transition will follow the demolition of the former Woolworths, Megavalue, Poundland and Sigma Aquatics building which roll out over the next few months.

Councillor Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member of Economic Regeneration, Planning, and the Green Agenda said

“The closing of Step Entry marks another milestone in this regeneration project which is being funded through the government’s Future High Street Fund (FHSF).  New, graduated steps linking Worcester Street to Bromsgrove Street are part of proposals for a completely new attractive outdoor green space which will provide improved access, somewhere for people to sit, relax and meet up, and potentially a children’s play area.

This project is about improving the appearance and connection of this area of town with Bromsgrove Street and the wider site previously occupied by the Glades Leisure Centre.  It will also create improved access to the new Creative Hub currently being created in the former Magistrates Court.”

These plans are subject to Council approval through a planning application currently viewable on the Wyre Forest District Council’s website planning portal by searching 23/0614/RG3.
