The start of transformation works to the historic Grade II Listed, Kidderminster Town Hall, have now begun in earnest.

This follows the announcement of Worcestershire-based contractor, Speller Metcalfe, as the construction firm behind the project at the end of last year.

Commercial and Cultural Hub plans submitted

Plans to create a new commercial and cultural hub on the site of the former market hall, have been submitted.

The 3-part proposal includes a pavilion providing a multipurpose community asset in an open plan configuration to encourage creative exhibitions, markets, and community use during the day, evenings, and weekends.

£725,000 funding boost to Wyre Forest regeneration projects

Wyre Forest District Council welcomes the news that it has been awarded £725,000 from the government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund.

This funding will go towards the ongoing connectivity project in Kidderminster town centre which will improve the appearance, access and connection of Worcester Street with Bromsgrove Street and links to the wider Lionfields development site.

Next Step for regenerating Kidderminster

The ‘Step Entry’ which connects Worcester Street to Bromsgrove Street in Kidderminster town centre is closed from Friday 15 September 2023 to make way for the transition to an attractive new stepped access and green space in the middle of town.

The transition will follow the demolition of the former Woolworths, Megavalue, Poundland and Sigma Aquatics building which roll out over the next few months.

New support launches for Wyre Forest businesses

Businesses and start-ups in the Wyre Forest can now benefit from a new, multi-million pound support package being run in partnership with local authorities in Worcestershire.

£3.9 million in grant funding is on offer across the county and over 600 businesses and 200 aspiring entrepreneurs are set to be supported by March 2025.

The support will help businesses to start up, scale up, grow, innovate and achieve net zero ambitions.

Hundreds of residents, shoppers, retailers, and workers viewed proposed plans for the regeneration of Worcester Street in Kidderminster town centre.

At the public information event on Thursday (3 August 2023) visitors saw for themselves the proposed designs to replace the former Woolworths, Megavalue, Poundland and Sigma Aquatics buildings which will have a phased demolition over the coming weeks.

People in Redditch are being invited to have their say on possible future redevelopment concepts for the town’s Matchborough and Winyates district centres.

Redditch Borough Council is consulting on a swathe of improvements that could be made to the district centres, which were built just 800 metres apart during the ‘new town’ expansion of Redditch.

The results of the consultation will help inform future bids for the funding that would be required to regenerate the centres.

North Worcestershire Businesses receive £605,000 boost

Since April this year, North Worcestershire businesses have received more than £600,000 of support from the Business Growth programme.

In North Worcestershire, The Business Growth Programme, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and managed by Birmingham City Council provides grants of between £10,000 and £1million to businesses to help them grow and flourish.

ReWyre celebrates 10 years

Business leaders celebrated 10 years of regeneration across the Wyre Forest area at a breakfast event hosted by NWedR on behalf of Wyre Forest District Council at Hogarths Stone Manor this month.

Redditch Royal Enfield welcomes guest

A VIP guest, with a rich Royal Enfield background visited a showcase which for the last six weeks has celebrated the iconic motorcycle brand which hails from Redditch.

The grandson of R W Smith, one of the founders of Royal Enfield, turned up to the pop-up museum, in the Kingfisher Centre, which was installed following a partnership struck up between Redditch Borough Council and the international firm.

MGTS officially open new training facility for food industry

Leading engineering training provider, MGTS (Midland Group Training Services) had its brand new, purpose-built facility for engineering food maintenance and food process manufacturing at its Redditch training centre officially opened today (5 July) by Rachel Maclean MP. This doubles its capacity to train apprentices in the food industry sector from 50 to 100.

AP Insurance Brokers were quite surprised to be announced as one of the 12 winners for the 2019 ‘Celebrating North Worcestershire’ calendar.  The company’s owner, Andy Phillips said “My brothers thought it was very funny that I would be ‘Mr July’ but it’s great to be one of many companies doing so well in such a great growth area as North Worcestershire.”

Setting up a new business in the middle of a recession with no clients might not seem the best of ideas, but that is exactly what Andy Phillips from AP Insurance Brokers did in 2011.  Andy had been working in the “big company” world for over 25 years and decided that he wanted to build his own business based on his own values and client centric approach.

Thorlux Lighting has been honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, in the Innovation category, for its SmartScan wireless lighting management system.

As a small, local charity, The Basement Project in Bromsgrove offers support to 16-25 year olds with any issues or problems that they may be going through.

Young people come to The Basement for a variety of reasons, but sadly many are often homeless or at risk of homelessness. The Basement is a safe, secure environment and offers some stability in what are, all too often, very chaotic lives.
